The Centre for Economic Institutions and Business History
Established in 2000, the Centre for Economic Institutions and Business History promotes innovative inter-disciplinary research on economic institutions, 91ÊÓƵµØÖ·ÏÂÔØhistory and economic history. As a research centre that sits across an economics department and 91ÊÓƵµØÖ·ÏÂÔØschool, we are interested historical perspectives on topical issues related to business, society and economics broadly speaking.

Our mission
The Centre brings together economists and economic, 91ÊÓƵµØÖ·ÏÂÔØand management historians to explore the history of 91ÊÓƵµØÖ·ÏÂÔØand the economy. Our research examines the role of 91ÊÓƵµØÖ·ÏÂÔØenterprises and economic institutions in shaping national and global development, challenging and refining existing understanding.
In the rapidly evolving global economy of the twenty-first century, we examine how entrepreneurs, organisations and institutions have adapted over time. We investigate both long-standing firms that have endured and transformed in response to social, economic and technological change, as well as the emergence of new industries and enterprises. Recognising the heterogeneity of organisational forms and 91ÊÓƵµØÖ·ÏÂÔØsystems, our work spans multinational corporations, small and medium-sized enterprises, family firms and 91ÊÓƵµØÖ·ÏÂÔØnetworks.
Our interests cover a broad historical scope, from the medieval and early modern periods, through the First Industrial Revolution, and into the digital revolution of today. The Centre provides an enthusiastic and creative environment for the production and dissemination of academic research.
